Fees | Policies

Most people I see have insurance or use their EAP benefits to pay for their therapy, and about one fourth of my clients are self pay. When I talk to people about fees, I talk about how long they might expect to be in treatment. Most symptoms related to anxiety, depression or relationships issues can be significantly improved in 6 to 12 sessions. Problems related to PTSD, psychosis, personality disorders or bi polar depression may need 24 to 60 sessions. I work very carefully with each of my clients to develop a treatment plan that fits their diagnosis and takes into account the reality of cost. Call or email me for more information. In thinking about paying for treatment you can consider the following:
  • Use your EAP benefit, which is often at no cost for up to 6 sessions.
  • Pay between $20 to $40 for your copay, if you are using insurance.
  • Use a health savings account to reimburse up to 100% of your fees for psychoanalysis and therapy.
  • Your cash payment may be claimed on your taxes as a medical expense. Talk to a qualified accountant about this.
  • Your cash payment for therapy with a licensed therapist can, in most cases, go toward meeting your annual insurance deductible
  • I can provide you with an invoice for your insurance company or your accountant.
Remember, it’s helpful to consider why you are going to therapy, the time frame offered for your expected outcome, and then evaluating your progress after a set number of sessions. The goals for therapy should be very clear and discussed frequently, so that you can be sure you are making progress and receiving value for therapy.

Costs per session: Individuals using insurance are billed at $165 for a 50 minute session, and your copay will vary. Consult your plan for details. If you are paying cash, there is no administrative cost for processing insurance and your 50 minute session is billed at $150. Sliding scale and pro bono available on limited basis.

Office hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. Other times may be available by appointment.

Fees: Due at the beginning or end of each session by check or cash unless prior arrangements have been made. I do accept credit card payment by Paypal.

Insurance: I am an in-network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Moda. I offer out-of-network provider coverage for other insurances. I can also provide you with a receipt which you can submit to your insurance company. With self-pay, your confidentiality is protected, and decisions about therapy are not limited by your insurance company.

Payment Plans: To make therapy payments more affordable and more convenient, I accept automatic electronic payments. Payments can be delivered every two weeks, over a six-month period. For example, for 6 sessions at $150 per session, that works out to 13 payments of about $69 every two weeks.

Sliding Scale Fee: I do have limited slots for people who need therapy, but simply can't afford it. Call or email for more information.

Confidentiality: Information relayed in the course of counseling will be held in the strictest confidence and will not be disclosed to any person or agency without written consent. The only exceptions are as follows: 1) Statements made regarding intention to harm self or others, 2) any acts of child or elder abuse, and 3) information that would require emergency medical intervention. Consultation may be held with other professionals if I believe it will be useful in our work.

Cancellations: Your time is reserved for you, so I do ask for a minimum of 24-hour notice if you must cancel or reschedule your appointment. Your full fee will be charged for missed appointments without the minimum 24 hour notice.  If you become ill or have an emergency that prevents you from keeping your appointment, you will not be charged for the missed appointment.
